Requesting Permissions
Grant microphone, speech recognition, and keyboard access so WhisKey can transcribe privately on-device.
iOS / iPadOS
- Open Settings > Privacy & Security and allow Microphone and Speech Recognition for WhisKey.
- Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards.
- Tap Add New Keyboard…, choose WhisKey, then enable it.
- Select WhisKey in the list and toggle Allow Full Access so the keyboard can send text from the app to your cursor.
- Reopen the app where you want to type and pick the WhisKey keyboard from the globe icon.
macOS (Permission Prompts)
- When prompted the first time you record, choose Allow for microphone access.
- If you dismissed the prompt, open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and enable WhisKey.
- For keyboard text insertion, approve Input Monitoring (and Accessibility if requested) under Privacy & Security, then restart the app.
- Keep Wi‑Fi on or off—transcription stays on-device either way.

Is WhisKey really offline?
Yes. All recording, transcription, and model inference run locally on your device with no cloud connectors or analytics.
Which devices and OS versions are supported?
WhisKey is built for iOS and iPadOS 16+ on devices with Metal support. The keyboard works anywhere you can type.
Do I need an internet connection?
No. After installing the app and downloading models, WhisKey works entirely offline and continues functioning in airplane mode.
How do I switch languages?
Open WhisKey, choose your preferred model and language pack, and the keyboard will follow that choice the next time you record.
How private is my data?
Audio stays on-device. We do not collect, store, or send your recordings or transcripts anywhere.
What if the keyboard does not appear?
Ensure WhisKey is added as a keyboard in Settings and that Full Access is granted. Then reopen the app you are typing in.
